Writing for Real
Here at Oasis Academy Short Heath, we are dedicated to ensuring the English curriculum is as engaging, immersive and exciting as possible.
In writing lessons, we use a ‘Writing for Real’ approach, where children’s experiences in school shape the writing they do in English lessons. We have cared for dragon eggs, excavated dinosaur bones, and even investigated an alien landing! We also use dedicated vocabulary lessons, and daily Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons to ensure our children are continuously making progress in their writing.
Our twice weekly reading lessons use a shared reading approach, which gives children that valuable experience of discussing their thoughts and feelings about the books they are reading in class. Teachers use their own passion for reading to make that the books they pick as class readers are as exciting as possible. Your child’s reading will be supported with our classroom reading corners, which have an excellent range of texts, as well as access to reading apps, so children can read books wherever they are.
