Curriculum Statement of Intent at Oasis Short Heath
Oasis Academy Short Heath: Where we strive for the highest possible standards of achievement and behaviour and every individual shines with possibilities.
At Oasis Academy Short Heath, our curriculum is designed with 3 goals in mind:

To strive to achieve a culture of excellence, by inspiring and engaging all pupils in a creative curriculum, promoting self-belief, challenging them to do their best and instilling high aspirations.
We believe that education should fulfil all areas of childhood, with a key focus on ensuring children are given engaging, exciting and appropriate experiences to aid their learning. Every child is recognised and celebrated as a unique individual, with the ability to achieve high standards of attainment with high quality curriculum delivery. Working with and involving the community is an important part of our curriculum. We wish to ignite a long life love of learning in every individual who enters our academy.

To equip learners with transferable skills that will allow our children to have a sense of achievement in all that they do, equipping them for today and tomorrow.
At our school, we ensure that all lessons challenge, motivate and inspire children to be their best, through instilling independence and enjoyment of learning. Our focus on the 9 Habits (compassion, joyful, considerate, patience, honesty, forgiving, humble, hopeful and self-control) underpins the development children’s spiritual, moral and social character, ensuring that children are well-equipped, confident and resilient not just for today, but for their futures too.

To develop children’s sense of responsibility, enabling them to become valued citizens and contributing members of society, who appreciate and respect differences.
Our curriculum teaches our pupils that we are a wonderfully culturally diverse school with a highly regarded inclusive ethos and practice. Our children are taught to show respect to everyone no matter what our differences may be. We celebrate this diversity in our curriculum and help our pupils acquire an understanding of, and respect for, their own and other cultures and ways of life. Encouraging our pupils to challenges prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour allows them to become well-rounded individuals that respect everyone.

Knowledge Maps
A Knowledge Map is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learned by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.
We have developed our own Knowledge Maps to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each map also has a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
