Academy lunches

Children have the option of having an Academy lunch or bringing a packed lunch. We encourage children to have an academy meal. These are cooked on site and are nutritionally balanced and always offer a choice. Menus are available on the school noticeboard.

Academy lunches are paid for at the office. Please use a marked envelope for the money. Free Academy meals are available to those families in receipt of Child Tax Credit, Job Seekers’ Allowance or Income Support. Please bring proof of your entitlement to the Academy office, where the relevant paperwork can be completed.

Packed lunches

Year 3 to Year 6 children may bring a packed lunch. Please note that children are only allowed to bring one treat per day into the Academy such as crisps, sweets or chocolate - in line with the healthy eating policy. No fizzy drinks or cup drinks are allowed in the academy.

Children should bring plain water to drink during the day in labelled bottles. These should be taken home and cleaned regularly. These can be refilled throughout the day at the academy water fountains.

Birthday Treats

On birthdays individual wrapped sweets only are allowed to be brought into the academy to give out, no lollies are allowed. We are unable to give out cake or party bags. All birthday treats will be given out at the end of the day and as such treats are only to be consumed when in the care of the parent/carer. Treats are not allowed to be eaten in the building.  No birthday treats are to be brought into nursery.

Applying for Free School Meals

Free Academy meals are available to those families in receipt of Child Tax Credit, Job Seekers’ Allowance or Income Support. Please bring proof of your entitlement to the Academy office, where the relevant paperwork can be completed. For an application form please email info@oasisshortheath.org

Allergies Aware Academy

We are an Allergies Aware Academy

We want to make sure our pupils with allergies feel safe at our academy. We are asking everyone in our academy community to do their bit to become allergen aware.

We want to make sure our pupils with allergies feel safe at our academy. We are asking everyone in our academy community to do their bit to become allergen aware.

At our academy we have pupils with a range of allergies including:

· Nuts
· Fish

These pupils are at risk of serious harm if they have an allergic reaction, so we ask that everyone does what they can to help us keep them safe.

How can you help?

Due to the severities of the allergies in some of our children we DO NOT allow any nut or fish products in the Academy to reduce the chances of someone experiencing a reaction – please respect this request.

We also ask that, if your child consumes any nut-based product before school, they wash their hands thoroughly before entering the school grounds. We understand that this measure may seem extreme; however, we want to ensure the health and safety of all our pupils, and some of the pupils with the allergy are severe enough that even the slightest of contact with nuts could cause a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction.

Also it is important to note that some body lotions/creams contain nut oils and therefore we ask that you consider using alternatives to avoid potential reactions in school.

We appreciate your support in helping us to protect all children from the risk of an allergic reaction.

Below is a common list of fish related foods which have been brought into the academy in lunchboxes in the past.

• Tuna sandwiches

• Tuna pasta salad

• Prawn cocktail crisps

• Seafood sticks

Whilst the above list is not extensive, we do ask that you check packaging carefully to ensure we minimise the risk for our young people. We appreciate this is an additional thing to do, but we know you recognise the importance of this.

Medical assistance

Auto-injector (AAI) and first aid is located at the main reception.

Our allergy lead is Mrs East-Goodman.  In her absence please contact Mrs Pam Atwal (DSL) or Mr Joseph Darnley (Deputy Principal).

Thank you for being allergy aware.
